Introduction to Zamples

Live Code • Knowledge Base • Community

Zamples™ is a useful documentation tool for generating Javadocs with live sample code fragments.  The code fragments can be written in Java or they can be Java Server Pages (JSPs).  People reading the documentation can bring the sample code fragments to life by clicking on the button that Zamples generates.  Readers can learn by playing with the live sample program fragments.

Zamples differs from traditional IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) in that it is a web application, and runs from a web browser.  This allows for some interesting applications, such as creating interactive online programming manuals and API documentation that can be clicked on.  Sample program fragments can be 'brought to life' and run so that they can be experimented with.

Zamples is an easy and quick way to learn how to program APIs using previously prepared code fragments written in Java or JSP and HTML. When you click on a button that someone else has previously prepared, Zamples starts up in a new browser window with the program fragment ready to run.

Free Access to Zamples Live APIs

The Java Servlet API Javadocs have been adapted for use with Zamples' Live APIs.  If you are a programmer who needs to reference the Java Servlet Javadocs, please take advantage of the free public access to the Zamples Live APIs.  We have seeded the Servlet 2.3 HttpServletRequest Javadocs with working code examples.

This Zamples installation is free for public use, and contains 'live' versions of the Servlet 2.3 documentation.  Don't hesitate to contribute to the Live APIs. Share your knowledge, ask for help with specific issues, and participate in the Zamples on-line community of programmers.

If your company wishes to link to this web site, or to run your own Zamples installation, please contact us.
